Dr. Iis Sujarwati Shares Expertise on Mini Research in TEFL at UMALA Guest Lecture

Dr. Iis Sujarwati, M.Pd., a lecturer of the Master’s Program in English Language Education (MPBIng), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Bengkulu (UNIB), served as a guest lecturer at Universitas Ma’arif Lampung (UMALA). The guest lecture was organized by the Tadris Bahasa Inggris Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, and conducted online via Zoom Meeting on Friday, 19 December 2025.

The academic activity carried the theme “Mini Research of TEFL in Indonesia” and aimed to enhance students’ understanding of research fundamentals in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). In her presentation, Dr. Iis Sujarwati emphasized the importance of mini research as a foundational step in developing research literacy, critical thinking skills, and reflective teaching practices among prospective English teachers.

Dr. Iis elaborated on key components of mini research in TEFL, including identifying classroom-based problems, formulating research questions, selecting appropriate research designs, and reporting research findings systematically. She highlighted that the quality of mini research is determined not by its scale, but by the rigor of the research process and the relevance of its pedagogical contribution to English language teaching.

The guest lecture was officially opened by Mai Zuniati, M.Pd., Head of the Tadris Bahasa Inggris Study Program, UMALA, who underscored the importance of academic collaboration and research-based learning in preparing future English educators. The session was moderated by Umar Alfaruq A. Hasyim, S.S., M.Pd., who facilitated an interactive and engaging discussion between the speaker and participants.

Participants showed strong enthusiasm throughout the session, particularly during the question-and-answer segment, which addressed practical issues related to conducting mini-research, classroom-based inquiry, and transforming research projects into academic reports.

This invited lecture reflects Dr. Iis Sujarwati’s active role in academic dissemination at the national level and demonstrates MPBIng FKIP UNIB’s continued commitment to strengthening scholarly collaboration, institutional visibility, and research-oriented learning across higher education institutions.
