Dr. Wisma Yunita, M.Pd., a senior lecturer at the Master’s Program of English Language Education (MPBIng), Universitas Bengkulu, was invited as a Keynote Speaker at the Asia-Pacific Virtual Exchange Association (APVEA) 2025 6th Biennial Conference, held online on 6 December 2025. The conference carried the theme “VE: Connecting Peoples of the World in the Age of AI.”
Representing Universitas Bengkulu, Dr. Yunita delivered a keynote presentation titled “Virtual Exchange Practices in Indonesian Higher Education Context: Opportunities & Challenges.” Her session highlighted Indonesia’s growing engagement with Virtual Exchange (VE) initiatives, the evolving policy landscape supporting international collaboration, and the transformative role of AI-driven tools in enhancing global learning experiences for students.
The conference brought together scholars, practitioners, and VE project leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region, Japan, Europe, and the Americas. Dr. Yunita’s keynote—scheduled in the main plenary room following the opening remarks by APVEA Chair Eric Hagley—received strong engagement from participants, including researchers from Okayama University, the United States, Ukraine, and the Philippines.
In her talk, Dr. Yunita emphasized the strategic importance of Virtual Exchange in broadening global exposure for Indonesian students, addressing gaps in mobility access, and fostering intercultural competence. She also discussed the challenges commonly encountered by higher education institutions, such as digital readiness, pedagogical alignment, and sustainability of VE programs. Drawing on UNIB’s participation in multiple VE initiatives, she demonstrated practical models that can be replicated across Indonesian universities.
Her keynote appearance signifies UNIB’s strengthened presence in the international VE community and reinforces MPBIng’s commitment to promoting global engagement, innovation in digital pedagogy, and international collaboration aligned with its vision of excellence and global competitiveness.
With leading experts such as Tim Cleminson, Susan Meiki, Yuliana Lavrysh, and Erwin Faller also presenting at the conference, APVEA25 served as a significant platform for knowledge sharing and strengthening ASEAN–global academic networks.
