5th International Conference on the Teaching of English and Literature (ICOTEL) Successfully Held at Universitas Bengkulu

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, the 5th International Conference on the Teaching of English and Literature (ICOTEL) was successfully conducted at Universitas Bengkulu. The hybrid event attracted a diverse audience of educators, researchers, and students worldwide, focusing on the theme “New Age Technology in English Language Teaching and Literature.”

The conference featured prominent keynote speakers, including Prof. Dr. Ilza Mayuni, M.A. from Jakarta State University; Asst. Prof. Fernandita G. Jayanti, Ph.D. from Universitas Bengkulu; Asst. Prof. Dr. Parichart Kluensuwan from Shinawatra University, Thailand, and Eric Hagley from Griffith University, Australia. Their insights provided valuable perspectives on integrating technology into English language teaching and literature, fostering innovation and enhanced engagement in the classroom.

ICOTEL 5 addressed various sub-themes, such as digital literacy, multimodality, teacher professional development, discourse analysis, and sociolinguistics in ELT. The event also explored practical techniques and methods for effective material development and translation in English education, responding to the evolving demands of modern classrooms.

The conference, held from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., facilitated interactive discussions through on-site and online presentations. Participants engaged in thought-provoking sessions, shared research findings and exchanged ideas on adapting educational practices to meet the needs of the digital age.

The English Education Postgraduate Program at Universitas Bengkulu organized the conference. Its success underscores a commitment to advancing technology’s role in English language education, encouraging educators to explore innovative teaching strategies to improve learning outcomes globally.
